Celebrating 100 Days of Learning
Posted on 02/25/2018

Showell Elementary School students and staff celebrated the 100th Day of School on Friday, February 16th. The students and staff participated in the following activities to commemorate the day:

  • The daily moment of silence lasted for 100 seconds.
  • Students received 100th Day stickers to wear on their shirts.
  • During announcements, selected students lead a school wide 100th Day sing along.
  • Students with perfect attendance for the first 100 days of school received an attendance award certificate.
  • We had a spirit day. Students wore their Showell t-shirts or red, white, and blue.

The 100th day is also when we combine the pennies that all classes have collected and used in lessons. Students counted pennies, predicted how many are in a jar, estimated and organized pennies into sets of ten and learned to count by 10s. We teach community giving as we donate all those pennies to a local children's charity. Our donation typically hovers around $500. This year we chose the Make A Wish Foundation to receive our donation. Click below to see a  YouTube video about the work of the Make a Wish Foundation.
